Remembering
The Classics

Remembering the classics in Theater, Movie, and Film. For some of us it might be a flash back. For many, relevant as we still remember and watch them frequently. It’s possible there are those who don’t know any of them. But if you are one of those who don’t remember it may be a very enlightening experience that honestly couldn’t hurt you to try.
My father was a director and producer of musicals and plays. Mostly High Schools and Civic Theatre. I was constantly as a very young girl thrown into the midst of it all. You may recall ‘June is Bustin’ Out All Over’ or ‘You’ll Never Walk Alone’ from ‘Carousel’. Maybe you recall “Oklahoma” and ‘Oh What A Beautiful Mornin’? Possibly ’76 Trombones’ or ‘You Got Trouble’ from ‘The Music Man?’ How about, ‘Old Man River’ from ‘Show Boat?’ The never forgotten ‘ I Could Have Danced All Night’ from ‘My Fair Lady’? ‘South Pacific;, ‘Sound Of Music’, 'Les Misérables’, the list goes on and on. Those iconic films we should remember. As a professional dancer, some of my favorites you may remember are coming back like one of the best dance movies ever “West Side Story.” I need to mention “A Chorus Line” “Singing in The Rain”, ‘Grease’ “Annie” and ‘Chicago’ and I personally am very excited about the motion picture release of “Wicked”. ‘I could have danced all night’ watching those films.
Now let’s talk about the old movie classics. Some even have relevance even today. I believe they are important to share and pass on. You may of heard of a few little films like ‘Citizen Kane’, ‘Casablanca’, ‘The Godfather’ ‘The Graduate’ To Kill a Mockingbird’ and On the Waterfront’ How about the epic, ‘Wizard Of Oz’ and “Gone With The Wind”? Again, the list goes on and on.
We can’t forget to remember several of the ‘Disney Classics’, like “Mary Poppins’ ‘Chitty Chitty Bang Bang’. How about all the animated classics that touched our hearts like ‘Bambi’, Cinderella and Snow White? I would be re-miss in not mentioning a fairly new little show called “Hamilton’.
So if you are Broadway bandits of Musicals or plays or maybe you are an epic Film fan. I believe you will understand passing these legendary awesome pieces of art on. Though doubtful, there may be some who don’t know what I am talking about. If so, I believe it would be a disservice to not encourage to look into some of these.
Whether you give it a try or you recapture and think of some of your beloved shows and movies, It may make the hills come alive, as the rain in Spain stays mainly in the plain. You may find some enchanted evening or you may meet a stranger and feel younger than spring time. You might want to dance all night, (even if you do want to wash that man or woman out of your hair). By chance you may wish upon a star, then even dream the impossible dream and know there is know place like home. After a pause, you are singing in the rain because you know the sun will come out tomorrow. You then follow that yellow brick road to see we may find a new way of living, a way of forgiving, somewhere, somehow, someday, someway?
Keep the classics, because I know there is a place for us. We are all classic, forever and always!
